There is probably nothing more fascinating than turning over the stones of history and finding some new insight crawling out from underneath. My interest started with the discovery of a cache of papers relating to cable telegraphs, but soon spread to other areas mostly but not exclusively related to technological history.
The material collected here comprises:
Brief Biographies
This page is devoted to those people who made a lesser known contribution to telegraphy, but whose names might not come up on a web search in this context. Many of the thumbnail biographies have been taken from Ivan S. Coggeshall's book (see below). There are also some detailed biographies.
Books and papers to share
This is mainly a collection of papers which is available for download and use for research purposes. Included are:
- Ivan Coggeshall's book on cables and radio telegraphs
- Eric Clayton's book on BT Marine Services
- Some telegraph papers
- Some telegraph related papers
- World War II with particular emphasis on Ireland
- Industrial history in Ireland
Transcriptions of interviews (work in progress)
In the course of collecting material I have interviewed many fascinating people. The rough notes of interviews will be included here in case they are of value to other researchers
